Default Wierd Ping/Latency issues

Getting this problem everyday now when trying to play CS:S for just over a week now..

If I search for an internet server list it's shows them all normally with pings listed from 15(ish) to 90(ish), which matches my filter of Europe based servers under 100 ping.

If i click on 'view server info' it's shows a farely normal latency of 30-50(ish) for a second or two and then it suddenly changes to 1000+ and no players/scores are shown.

If I find a server where the latency shown doesnt change and lists the players + scores, when I then connect to play the ingame reported llatency hovers at around 30-50(ish) and then immediately spikes to 350-400 as soon as i select a team, and it then refuses to drop.

If I'm really lucky I can find 1 server to play on every 2-3 days where this doesnt happen.

TF2 is installed aswell, and I don't have any of these problems with it (and i don't really like TF2), I can list servers and get normal Latency ingame reports in the 30-50 range constantly..

WTF is going on ???

If it's not doing it in other games, I'd hazard a guess at it being CS:S being its usual piece of shit self........... God I hate this game.

Try deleting the local content for CSS and re-installing it. That should hopefully clear any settings that may have been changed by a server you have joined.

Unfortunately, I'm no expert on the game's consol settings so I couldn't advise you on which one's to manually check (I doubt rate, cl_updaterate, cl_cmdrate would have any effect on ping) If you have duel monitors, open event viewer and task manager in one screen and CSS in another and see if anything is running when you join a server that might be stealing bandwidth. also check that someone isn't stealling your wireless. you can check which MAC addresses are being used in the routers built in settings. Also, check that your firewall isn't blocking CSS both software and router firewalls.

let me know how you get on.

Try deleting the clientregistry.blob file in your steam/profile/source/counterstrike folder that seems to fix many css issues.

Also I've sort of had that problem once or twice - usually its because CSS has not loaded properly and my PC firewall blocks the communication ports partially - turning off and back on the firewall usually fixes it.
