The legendary Dust series continues - exclusively in the new issue of PC Gamer

The June issue of PC Gamer, on sale from this Thursday (12 May), features a must-have exclusive for any Counter-Strike fan - a brand new Dust map by renowned mapper Dave Johnston.

His previous creations Dust and Dust 2 are not just the most played maps on Counter-Strike servers, they're probably the most popular maps in online gaming. The third map in the series has been created exclusively by Dave Johnston for PC Gamer, his first for Counter-Strike Source.

Dust_PCG has the all the hallmarks of the previous maps with a few surprises thrown in. With full bot support, gamers will also be able to enjoy the map offline.

The June issue will not only give gamers the first opportunity to play the new creation, it will also give would-be mappers the chance to create their own version with the first part of a CS Source mapping tutorial by Dave.

The map is available on both the CD and DVD editions of the magazine.

nice find argaf - think it will be going on the server then! I hope Valve support it then it will be an 'offical' map and we can play in matches... the list of match maps is pretty small at the moment (cbble, dust, dust2, italy, office, aztec) the cs maps aren't so popular so its really - dust2, dust and aztec (cbble in the distance).

Yeah but notice how high graphics settings are - everything is set to max... i'd get that at 2fps maybe 40fps if i play at my current settings (which is very playable :) )

PK|Argaf

Ah, Cerro, that's how I play, 1024x768 with max settings :D
Lowest FPS is about 35 on train.
Usually 60-100 on the two current dusties.

I really love the shadows. Helps alot when creeping around, not that I creep much, prefer the guns blazing run me.

i laugh at your patheic rates. 100-200 it varies on how many people are playing and what is happening in the map.

funnily though rate go up when im moving.

you're all bastards! I want a better graphics card (i think my shadows are on though, it gives you an advantage) and my res is at 1280x1024 - 19" LCD runs at that res so it makes sense to have it up there :D

PK|Colonel Ames

lol that might be your prob

PK|Cerro
10th May 2005, 12:58 PM
i don't really find it a prob - anything over 30fps is playable, its only if you go below that that things start to become a problem.

I still want a new graphics card but im not going to bother unless its dirt cheap or i've got the option to go PCI-X.

I get 10fps in compound and aztec after awhile. everything else its always 20-40

when my graphics card isnt being bitch, i normally get 60 - 80fps on every map, even when everythings being blown up or smoked... though i dont think my card gets on with aztec very well, its just unplayable

1)You see now if you really were a Demi-god you'd do something god like. O

2)Only a Demi-person would claim to be a demi-god when they're not.

Hence if no god like acts are performed we can put you under the catagory of either "Demi-Person", "Demi Moore" or "Demi moore's obsessed fan (with the surname God) who changed their first name to Demi as a sign of respect"

Back to the earlier subject... on my 9800 AWI I get anywhere between about 86-156 fps for standard play...with dips in level like office (at CT spawn) and when the bomb goes off.

Playable fps:
long periods of time >70fps
Medium times > 30fps
Short periods > 30fps

You don't really ever want to go below 30fps (if you do consistantly you should consider changing resolution or some major settings) For long periods of time >45mins it's best having a higher refresh rate as with the high definition of a computer monitor it can give headaches etc in some cases.
(Before anyone says anything...yes some TVs only run at about 30hz, but if you notice when they change to a new scene the old one remains "ghosted" for a while....this means your brain can work at a much lower flicker rate)

-Flicker rate is the rate at which your brain turns a series of still images into a moving picture. Watching something just below the flicker rate will mean your brain will have to work harder to make the motion appear smooth.
