View Full Version : Warez Groups

I was bored this morning and read a thing about the FBI raiding warez groups like Razor1911, FLT, Deviance and DOD - it was awhile ago it happened but they were doing sentenances today.
What do you guys think about it? I think its kinda stupid how you can go to jail for 5years for copyright (and in some countries 10-15yrs) when rapists get 5years! Don't you think they are more concerned about money than people? Plus i think all the software is stupidly over-priced and these groups are doing everyone a massive favour - granted if we all did it the programs would never get made, but then again look at linux!
Trouble is everyone can do it now with P2P stuff, its all abit too openly available to total n00bs who have no clue what they have even got - and don't bother to check what/where it all comes from. Plus im interested to know how the FBI and all that manage to track these groups and locate them?

the p2p thing is a huge problem. I'm part of an active art community (Deviantart.com). so many of the people who draw shit on their computers for fun and suck shit at it are getting really high quality programs like Photoshop and shit to do crap I can do in MS Paint.... and they complain that photoshop shouldnt have increased from like £200 to like £700 over the last couple of versions.
IMO They're the fucking problem.
even still, warez communities are helping users get good prices on software =P.... it's just the whole outburst of nubtubs downloading stuff of KaZaA that pisses the shit right outta me.

omg. WinMX is a pile off steaming shit. SoulSeek (p2p) is freaking awesome for music... for Movies and Episodes of shit i use Bit Torrents... for Porn I'll use KaZaA lite (sux, but it's usable.)
PK|Cerro

you suck hexx... use bit torrent - at least you need half a brain to use it. The amount of folk i know who can't use it, "wow thats really quick - i just got the whole 9Gb in 3seconds?" No you fuck-tard, you got the torrent you need to load that into a client and then get the file... "what?"
So they should burn Kazza and Win MX and Morpheous, share-bear and whatever else 3yrs are using and put it all back on IRC! Where you have to learn about what you are doing before being able to download it all. More spyware bombs and viruses for n00bs on Kazza please!

best software i've found recently for small things is DC++. works well and can usually find exactly what you're after. soulseek used to work well for me and so did winmx, but for applications or movies etc they both suck ass.

6th May 2005, 01:19 PM
what the hell is DC++? Never even heard of it! Sounds like a rip from IRC's DCC.

Personally, I believe I'm simply downloading communism. We share! Software is overpriced. You expect me to pay £575 for Macromedia Studio? You are having a fucking laugh. If games were brought down to £10 quid and maybe programs like Macromedia, office, bryce, etc were £30, I would buy.

so how does this bittorrent thingy work then.
i know you need a bit torrent program like Azureus. then you download what ever you want to download but what do you do after that?
for example.
I got Azureus on my comp. i go to torrentspy.com and download winrar to a folder where i download all my .torrent's to.
what do i do then so that i can use the winrar that i just downloaded coz is apears to be nothing but a 1KB text file.
PK|Cerro
6th May 2005, 02:49 PM
see what I mean?
OK Ames, you need to load Azureus and them import that .torrent file into it. All the .torrent file is, is a text file containing details for all the bits of the torrent - so it knows where to get it all from or what its actually looking for. The client, Azureus (I use torrent storm) is just a reader that manages the download of the whole file.
Btw, if those torrents are old now, they will probably be dead so make sure you are getting a torrent with alot of seeders (and few leechers) for a faster download - ones with zero seeders will never finish.

I use WinMX too (simply because torrenting music means you get uber low quality). Torrenting videos is great get speeds of 200Kb/s+ but speed isn't the main factor when downloading music. Thus I use WinMX as you can easily get music above 128kbs.

WinMX is a hackers dream.
a lot of my college mate were hax0rs and they said winMX was the easiest to plant trojons and backdoors.

If software was affordable then perhaps there wouldnt be such an issue with piracy. They inflate software prices and justify it by saying its piracy thats forcing them to do it. Its not, it's greed, i doubt piracy takes 1% out of their combined revenues.
Its the MPAA and the RIAA and the BPA that are money grabbing bastards, I pay enough tax as it is without having to pay £20 for an "import" album from HMV.
Torrents dont yield low quality music, specially if you look in the right places. I'm however a big fan of usenet, it still kicks anything else in the arse... twice!

personnaly i think that torrent is pretty good but u need an image mounting software and make a virtual drive and stuff it took me a while to get the whole thing settled, and then one morning i found out that my comp BIOS is completely chewed up and i had to reinstall each program and stuff. The moral just buy it and dont destroy ur comp just cuz some bastard overprice softwares...

hmmm dunno where you been getting music from Mojo but all the stuff i download is 192kbps and thats off bit torrent. try isohunt they've got loads of albums at 192kbps (it tells you in the file summery anyway what the bitrate is)

Without a doubt, torrent is the way to go. If you can get a direct download like jackal yea that is better. With Torrent you can choose what you want to download in the torrent. So lets say you go to download all of a bands albums in one, but you already have one. You can stop one of the albums from downloading, if it isn't compressed. You can get seasons of TV shows like scrubs, I got all 3 seasons so far, good quality. The thing about torrents is that its so stable, and if there is enough people on the torrent you will get a speed as fast as ur connection.

I use 256VBR or 320. If you're gonna download something do it right. I generally download whole albums in emule. and loose songs in winmx
PK|Deep Blue
7th May 2005, 12:25 PM
256 vbr is wasted space man :)
PK|Mojo J-Lo
7th May 2005, 01:17 PM
I've got the space to waste, I like having the freedom to convert lower if I need, but still have a decent copy of the song. My mp3 player holds 20gb, my mp3 cd player (in my car) hold 700mb a disk, and my computer holds 320gb, not really had the need to limit myself in quality. I don't use lossless as it's harder to play on stuff.

DC++ is just another p2p program really. you connect to a hub which contains lists of users then search through peoples lists. hubs are organised in different categories, mp3 divx etc..
pretty good at the moment. but can see it going the way of all decent programs once the noobs get hold of them! kazaa was good once believe it or not, then everyone got on it and flooded it with shit. good thing about dc++ is it can be hard to setup, scaring away loads of noobs :D

I thought win mx was now dead.... I never really used it, but my brother did.... I built him a machine and within 2 weeks it had so much fucking spy and adaware crap on it..... it still needs reinstalling now, but for the moment I can't be arsed.
I used to use Kazzaa lite a long time ago, but stopped using it (about 1 year maybe more) cos they keep logs of everything. I now only really use MIRC, Bit Torrent (Azeraus) or Easy News. Easy News is pretty good, but doesn't have everything all the time!

i dont seem to get that good a download speed for my bitTorrents. i download them from torrentspy and put them into azureus but they are slow.

10th May 2005, 12:45 PM
check the seeder to leecher ratio ames - if there's alot of leechers and not alot of seeders then the chances are you wont get a good download rate. Try get the best ratio torrent at the time if you can (night times are quicker that during the day).
PK|Colonel Ames
10th May 2005, 12:49 PM
I only ever pick ones with high seeder counts.
PK|Cerro
10th May 2005, 12:51 PM
maybe they're all limiting their upload to like 5kbps... lmao
oh btw ames - im bored.

10th May 2005, 12:53 PM
i noticed mate.
wish we were both at home so i could rematch u.
PK|Cerro
10th May 2005, 12:56 PM
Yeah a rematch of me shooting you in the head, again and again and again would be cool - all i need for instance replays is another round lol.
Check your settings for your torrent client, make sure you've not set any limits or anything - alternatively try a different client, i know some torrent sites had abit of trouble with trackers in the latest versions of azeraus.

10th May 2005, 04:03 PM
might try ABC (AnotherBitClient)
PK|Cerro
10th May 2005, 04:55 PM
yeah i think thats a decent one - im using torrent storm never had problems with it... there are many different flavours some good some not so good.

Bit comet, use that

10th May 2005, 07:05 PM
I just downloaded another client and im getting exactly the same. it will not download faster than 3kbps
PK|Mojo J-Lo
10th May 2005, 07:50 PM
My bro used to use ABC he now uses Azurez and prefers it (cause you can opn individual parts of torrents etc). I don't use any myself...but I thought you might like to know ABC apparently isn't as good.

Does the upload speed actually count towards the actuall downloading of the torrent? if so i get a combined speed of about 180KBps
PK|Soleft
11th May 2005, 08:05 AM
ames do you have a router? Or software firewall? You have to open all the ports or you won't get very fast download speeds.
PK|Cerro
11th May 2005, 08:33 AM
lol bye bye ames!
The more you upload the faster download rate you will be allocated... i limit my upload rate to 10kbps too high and it will start effecting your download speed - too low and you dont get enough bandwidth to download the torrent. 10-15kbps is acceptable, maybe 20 if you've got anything over a 1Mb connect (not that that should make any difference but you want the most out of the torrent).
PK|Mojo J-Lo
11th May 2005, 01:35 PM
Limit to 10 it's the easiest way...it should limit your downloads at that...anything more and it just makes CS lag and webpages take longer to load.
PK|Colonel Ames
11th May 2005, 01:49 PM
what it says is i get a dowload speep of 15-17KBps and an upload speep of around 20KBps then in bracketts it tells me the total speed is 108KBps (or there about) is the total what i should be looking at? Im using BitTornado now btw
