I got this brand new hard drive for christmas. I install it using the MaxBlast utility (format it, and transfer all the data from my old hard drive to the new one. So far so good, however, when i switch the new hard drive from primary slave to the master position, i encounter a few problems. When launching windows it doesn't do anything wrong, i still manage to get to choose which account to use and stuff. When the session is launched, the problem happens, its really strange, i get to my desktop and well, nothing happens, no icons appear, and the start menu doesn't come up. However, i can still log out using the ctrl + Alt + Del.
What should i do?

Sounds more like a windows account issue than a data transfer issue. If there was a problem with the transfer then i would expect a problem to come before you get that far. Which account you logging in as? Are you using the default admin account or your own, do you know which one it is trying to login as?

Whats this doing in the FAQ forum anyway? this is for questions about the clan!

edit: Moved.

Try opening task manager and using it to run "explorer" - that may start the desktop properly, but cerro it correct, it's probably a corrupted user profile.

i logged in on both the admin account and my account and the outcome is always the same. I'll try what you said argaf.
Sorry about the wrong area to create this thread :O

It sounds to me like something is using too much resourse to start Explorer. like Argaf said, in task manager, under the "Applications" tab, click "New Task" and type "explorer.exe" without the speech marks that should hopefully get things running.

i think his reasoning for copying data from one HD to another was to keep his windows install and other junk (like porn - we know you got loads of it snake) without having to get it all again...

fixed. I bought another cable for the power supply and it works fine. Funny how much shit you can put on a 350W. Thanks for the help anyways :)
And yea, i didn't want to lose all my files.
