I'm getting mini lag spikes. I always have connection data (Net_graph 3)being displayed while i play.

Some people have mentioned the rubberbanding before. I noticed it yesterday while throwing a nade. If just stopped in Mid air for 1/2 second then continued on.

When watching the ping it hovers about 39-42ms then lag and its 80 and comes back down to 39-42 again.

Can this be looked into? Is it the network the Server is connecting through? Is it the local network of the server house??

I know Cerro is against this but can we try knockin it back to 75 tic? 75 times a second is still alot of updates and over twice as fast as the default rate of 3o we once used.

This isnt happening to me on other servers.

It important we get this sorted so we keep people coming back.

santa, can you get this, and run some traceroutes when you are having problems

I can't just moan at the datacentre without having plenty of traceroutes from different people at the same time to help identify network issues
http://winmtr.sourceforge.net/

is the download URL, you'll want the windows binary

please remember that they provide and excellent service for the amount of cash we pay, and you know what to do if you want an improved service - donate more

myself and cerro have gone to considerable personal expense on this, and I totally agree that it will put people off playing, so all I need from you is, money and traceroutes :)

I'll get onto this tonight.

Dex are you not experiencing this also?

Is it just me and Colly?

I think BK mentioned the weird lag last night to.

I get lag spikes sometimes, but normally its fine, I do hear a lot of public players complaining about lag tho

Thats the stats from work tp the server. does that tell you anything Dex?

I connect better from home at least i think i do.

400ms average is piss poor!

i do get it occasionally, it was rock solid for quite a while, seems to be either my isp or the telehouse!

i get lag spikes too, reg ahs been really good recently but last night was awful :(

PK|Cerro

lowering it to tick75 won't make diddly squat of a difference... its not the server load because if it was it would be a constant problem and if that was the case if we converted the omega server to a second public, the server would die from the overload... but i doubt that would happen in either case - i can assure you its not the server load.

I occasionally get disconnected from the server - more recently but last night was due to my ISP doing some work on a gateway cause my net died altogther. I haven't had lag problems, reg on bots seems terrible but i'd but that down to css or my connection.

I think bad reg on bots is an "undocumented feature" as we say in the business...

Wtf is a traceroute and how do you make them?

PK|Cerro
25th October 2006, 04:09 PM
open a dos box and type tracert (IP of server)... thats a basic trace route - lists all the hops your packet goes through and the avg ping times to each hop.

But a decent tracert that would be any use to us needs to be done with that program as the dos tracert shows pretty much nothing useful

the last hop is the main one and 78 aint bad!

PK|Setanta

Everyhop is important.

Though i guess the hosts are only responcibile for the last 3 hops.

There is definitly something up.

Cerro reducing the tic reduces the amount of data sent/recieved. So doesnt stress the connection as much. I find on 66tic servers i reg alot better.

The point however is that it doesnt stay around 78, alot of the time it will jump to 500 for just afew seconds then back down then up again. For awile there the reg was perfect but recently its been back to its old self again hadda leave the server yesterday cause i kept getting the spikes.

Every hop is important for ping, but when it comes to packet loss (which is what happens when the router is busy, and that's the most likely cause of poor reg) as long as the last hop has 0% loss then you will be 100% fine.

Considering that the network we're connected to is a major backbone I doubt a 100tick server is overloading it. If you're experiencing shitty reg, then i suggest you lower your rates because its YOUR end that will be clogging up. If your netgraph is showing choke/loss then your rates need adjusting - if its just ping issues (which i haven't experience lately) then it might be the server but i haven't seen the rubber band effect for awhile.

well i was lead to belive loss is your end and choke was server end but hay ive only been playin 8 years i no nothing

and as for the server well heheheheheh no comment there tbh will only get slagged of more :D

wait thats a good thing right

bri i love you man but dude YOU SUX HARDCORE AT CSS :P

PK|Cerro

well choke is when the server is when you are getting more info from the server than you can handle - loss is the other way around, or the traffic levels are too high going to the server. But both can be fixed by adjusting your rates...
